Young Social Skills Group

Who:  Boys and Girls ages 4-6

This psychotherapeutic group teaches the ABC's of social skills to girls and boys with Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD), or PDD-like symptoms, who experience difficulties in the areas of expressive communication and social interaction.  Through the use of puppets, games, arts and crafts, and role-play, boys and girls will practice better conversational skills, learn to show interest in others, learn the nuances of verbal and nonverbal communication, develop appropriate assertiveness and cooperative play skills, and learn how to develop and build friendships and relationships.  An example of an activity: boys and girls construct a city out of clay, which enhances leadership styles and the importance of being a member by using cooperation and compromise.  Educational information is also provided to parents to assist their child in social situations, school, and at home.
