Services

At Advanced Behavioral Solutions, we offer a wide range of service options geared to meet the diverse needs of our clients.  All services rendered begin with an intake evaluation to determine objectives, gather relevant historical information, complete necessary forms, and discuss treatment recommendations and options.

Individual Psychotherapy
Individual psychotherapy is a process that involves assessing, monitoring, and resolving one’s psychological problems through the development of a therapeutic relationship with a trained professional in a confidential and safe environment.  An individual typically presents with symptoms and/or problems that are negatively impacting his or her ability to function adaptively.  Together, difficulties will be discussed and goals will be identified.  The therapist will determine diagnosis, conceptualize a treatment approach, and work collaboratively with the client to help the individual reach his or her goals.  The specific process of therapy is accomplished through a variety of methods determined by both the therapist and the client (e.g., psycho-education, behavioral experiments, cognitive restructuring, homework assignments, etc.).  At ABS, we choose therapies that have demonstrated effectiveness and tend to use cognitive-behavioral means.  However, we also recognize that no one solution will meet every need, and we integrate various philosophical perspectives to find solutions customized to your unique circumstance.

Autism Spectrum Services
Searching for solutions to the unique issues children with Autism (including non-verbal autism), Asperger's, and Pervasive Developmental Disorders present can be a complicated matter.  Whether you are looking for diagnostic clarification or have already embarked on a journey toward finding appropriate interventions, we can help!  We recognize that no two individuals on the autism spectrum are alike and, fitting with our customized service delivery model, we offer  behavioral interventions tailored to your child/teen's unique needs.  We provide individual, family, and group therapy services for children on the ASD/PDD spectrum targeting emotive expressiveness, social skills development, and adaptive family interactions. We incorporate techniques including Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Verbal Behavior Training (VB), and Relationship Development Intervention (RDI), to meet therapeutic goals.  We will also work collaboratively with your other therapeutic, medical, and educational service providers to integrate their respective knowledge bases in designing our interventions.

Group Psychotherapy
Group psychotherapy involves a small number of people, with similar issues, receiving therapy as a group from one therapist.  Group members may have common diagnoses and share similar symptoms.  The group setting is an ideal environment for clients to identify with others, receive support from peers, and gain feedback from differing perspectives in a nurturing atmosphere.  Additionally, clients can explore issues in a social situation that is more analogous to "real life."  We offer a wide variety of groups for adults, adolescents, and children covering an array of issues from divorce and anxiety to social skills training for specific disorders.  For more information regarding our many groups, click here.

Couples Therapy
Couples therapy involves a therapist working privately with a couple on relationship issues.  We offer services to couples at any stage in their relationship including pre-marital, marital or committed life partners, and even divorce.  Couples seeking our services are often interested in improving communication, learning more adaptive conflict resolution skills, enhancing their partnership, or resolving major issues that require mediation.

Pre-Marital Counseling:  Additionally, we offer unique pre-marital counseling workshops to couples needing to fulfill requirements for their upcoming nuptials.  This service is time-limited depending upon mandates from the institution where the marriage is to take place.  Couples receive certificates upon completion of this program.

Family Therapy
Family therapy is a form of psychotherapy that, ideally, includes all members of the immediate family working together to improve relationships.  In family therapy, the focus of clinical attention is not on one individual or an identified disorder.  Instead, the focus is on the family as a system.  Together the family and therapist assess how that system responds to challenges and identifies strengths as well as areas needing improvement.  Unhealthy and unproductive relationship patterns between family members are targeted for change in order to alleviate conflict.  Family therapy is most successful when the entire family participates, although the therapist may choose to work with individuals, dyads, or other combinations of family members at certain times to increase effectiveness.

STEP Program:  Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP) is a family-based intervention, designed specifically for parents, that teaches more effective ways to address behavioral issues with children and improve relationships.  Our staff is specially trained to implement the STEP curriculum with parents of toddlers, children, and teens.  We offer this service with parents privately or in a group format.  Participants in the STEP program learn how to identify the goals of their children’s misbehavior and respond accordingly to minimize inappropriate behaviors and encourage adaptive ones.

Acculturation Services
The process of acculturation includes adjustments and changes that individuals experience when submerging themselves into a drastically different culture.  During this process, individuals may experience psychological and social difficulties that cause mild to severe distress.  It is very common for children, adults, families, and couples to experience confusion, high levels of stress, frustration, feelings of loss, loneliness, social withdrawal, depression, and anxiety.

The therapists at Advanced Behavioral Solutions (ABS) are sensitive to the turbulence and isolation that individuals may experience during this transition.  We recognize the unique challenges presented by acculturation of any kind (relocation to the United States from a different country through job transfer, travel, marriage, educational pursuits, etc.).  Through the use of individual, group, couple, and family psychotherapies, we offer support and assistance by providing a safe and empowering therapeutic environment to help those struggling with acculturation issues.

Psychological Testing/ Evaluations
Comprehensive psychological evaluations are often sought to clarify diagnosis, determine the parameters of one’s functioning (e.g., intelligence and learning difficulties), and inform treatment/ service planning.  At ABS, we offer testing in several domains relevant to psychological functioning including personality, emotional, behavioral, intellectual, academic and neuro-psychological assessment measures.  Psychological evaluations yield an objective description of one’s abilities, including strengths and weaknesses, which can be compared to current functioning to determine presence of a disorder.  Additionally, the results of such assessment greatly assist in intervention planning.  We customize a testing battery on the basis of issues presented and goals of the evaluation, conduct the assessment, gather other relevant data, synthesize and interpret data, write a comprehensive report with specific recommendations to remediate any identified problems, and hold a feedback session to clarify results.

School Advocacy Services
At ABS, we are available to consult regarding your child's IEP or 504 Plan, attend special team meetings, conduct Functional Behavior Analysis, collaborate with school staff regarding academic and social-emotional learning goals, help facilitate the implementation of interventions, and progress monitor outcomes.  ABS can assist at any time with any one of these services or guide your family throughout the entire process from beginning to end.  Whether in public or private schools, from early intervention through college, our collaborative and supportive approach will:

Psychological and behavioral principles not only apply to individuals and families, but to larger systems including schools, businesses, and other institutions as well.  Faulty patterns of thinking or behaving can negatively impact the functioning of any organization.  Moreover, specially trained staff members are invaluable assets with the power to increase the effectiveness of your institution.  We will consult to determine your organization’s needs, conduct all preparatory data gathering, customize a workshop based on training goals, and deliver the workshop to your organization members.  Our staff has devised a number of these workshops for organizations in the past and is ready to help improve the functioning of your staff.
